1. Environmental Scientist / Environmental Consultant

Position Description


Bayvin (Pty) Ltd is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified Environmental Scientists / Environmental Consultants to join its professional network for current and future environmental consulting projects.

The successful candidates may support environmental assessments, compliance monitoring, environmental audits, environmental management planning, field investigations, monitoring programmes, data interpretation and technical reporting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental field assessments and site inspections. 
  • Assist with environmental compliance monitoring and audits. 
  • Conduct environmental monitoring and data collection. 
  • Assist with Environmental Management Plans and environmental reports. 
  • Review environmental legislation and licence conditions. 
  • Identify environmental risks and recommend mitigation measures. 
  • Prepare clear technical reports and recommendations. 
  • Liaise with clients, authorities and project stakeholders where required. 


Requirements

  • BSc/BTech/Honours degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Natural Sciences or a related discipline. 
  • SACNASP registration at the appropriate category is advantageous. 
  • Experience in environmental consulting, monitoring or compliance. 
  • Knowledge of South African environmental legislation. 
  • Good technical report-writing skills. 
  • Good communication and organisational skills. 
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork. 
  • Valid driver's licence is advantageous. 


2. Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP)

Position Description

Bayvin is seeking suitably qualified Environmental Assessment Practitioners to join its professional network and support environmental assessment and authorisation projects.

The EAP may be involved in coordinating environmental assessment processes, stakeholder engagement, environmental documentation, regulatory submissions and project compliance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate environmental assessment processes. 
  • Assist with Basic Assessment Reports and Environmental Impact Assessment processes. 
  • Coordinate specialist studies and technical inputs. 
  • Prepare and review environmental documentation. 
  • Facilitate stakeholder and public participation processes. 
  • Liaise with clients, authorities and specialists. 
  • Assist with environmental authorisation applications. 
  • Monitor project compliance with environmental authorisation conditions. 
  • Prepare professional environmental reports. 


Requirements

  • Relevant degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or related discipline. 
  • EAPASA registration is preferred/advantageous. 
  • Knowledge of NEMA and Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations. 
  • Experience with environmental assessment processes. 
  • Strong report-writing and communication skills. 
  • Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Good understanding of environmental legislation and regulatory processes. 
  • Valid driver's licence is advantageous. 


3. Water Resources Scientist / Hydrologist

Position Description

Bayvin is seeking Water Resources Scientists / Hydrologists to support water-related environmental projects, including water resource assessments, hydrological investigations, water quality monitoring and water-use-related projects.

This position would be particularly valuable to Bayvin because water resources are one of the company's core areas of interest.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct surface-water and water-resource assessments. 
  • Assist with hydrological investigations. 
  • Conduct field surveys and water monitoring. 
  • Assist with water quality monitoring programmes. 
  • Collect, analyse and interpret hydrological and water-quality data. 
  • Assist with Water Use Licence-related projects. 
  • Prepare technical reports. 
  • Identify potential water-resource impacts and recommend mitigation measures. 
  • Assist with regulatory compliance assessments. 


Requirements

  • BSc/BSc Honours/MSc in Hydrology, Water Resources, Water Science, Environmental Science or related field. 
  • SACNASP registration at the appropriate category is preferred. 
  • Experience in hydrology or water-resource assessment. 
  • Understanding of the National Water Act and South African water-resource management. 
  • Experience with water-quality monitoring is advantageous. 
  • Good technical report-writing ability. 
  • GIS experience is advantageous. 
  • Valid driver's licence is advantageous. 


4. Ecologist / Biodiversity Specialist

Position Description

Bayvin is seeking suitably qualified Ecologists / Biodiversity Specialists to join its multidisciplinary professional network for environmental assessment and development projects.

The specialist may support biodiversity assessments, ecological field surveys, impact assessments and environmental management recommendations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct ecological field assessments and surveys. 
  • Identify and assess ecological sensitivities. 
  • Assess potential impacts of proposed developments on biodiversity. 
  • Conduct desktop and field-based ecological investigations. 
  • Prepare ecological assessment reports. 
  • Provide recommendations for avoiding, minimising and mitigating ecological impacts. 
  • Contribute specialist information to EIAs and Basic Assessment Reports. 
  • Assist with environmental monitoring programmes. 
  • Liaise with other environmental specialists where required. 


Requirements

  • BSc/BSc Honours/MSc in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Environmental Science, Biodiversity or related field. 
  • SACNASP registration at the appropriate category is preferred. 
  • Relevant experience in ecological assessments. 
  • Knowledge of South African biodiversity and environmental legislation. 
  • Fieldwork experience. 
  • Strong technical report-writing skills. 
  • GIS knowledge is advantageous. 
  • Valid driver's license is advantageous. 


5. Wetland Specialist / Freshwater Ecologist

Position Description

Bayvin is seeking suitably qualified Wetland Specialists / Freshwater Ecologists to support projects involving wetlands, rivers, streams and other freshwater ecosystems.

The specialist will contribute to freshwater assessments, environmental impact assessments, water-resource projects and environmental management recommendations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct wetland and freshwater ecosystem assessments. 
  • Identify and delineate wetlands where appropriately qualified. 
  • Assess ecological condition and sensitivity. 
  • Conduct river and stream assessments. 
  • Identify potential impacts from proposed developments. 
  • Recommend mitigation and rehabilitation measures. 
  • Prepare wetland and freshwater specialist reports. 
  • Provide specialist input into EIAs, Basic Assessments and environmental management plans. 
  • Conduct monitoring and follow-up assessments where required. 


Requirements

  • BSc/BSc Honours/MSc in Environmental Science, Ecology, Botany, Zoology, Freshwater Ecology, Hydrology or related field. 
  • SACNASP registration at the appropriate category is preferred/advantageous. 
  • Demonstrable experience in wetland/freshwater assessments. 
  • Knowledge of South African freshwater ecosystems and relevant legislation. 
  • Experience with field assessments and technical reporting. 
  • Knowledge of wetland assessment methodologies is advantageous. 
  • GIS experience is advantageous. 
  • Valid driver's license is advantageous.
